You don’t have to write a novel, just a few comments on why it’s important to you. Here are a few additional reasons beyond the obvious benefit of having a new spraygroud/ playground for our children:

  • I think the greatest benefit to Elk Grove is not the playground we build but the sense of community and pride that will result from building it. There are so many new residents that everyone is a stranger here and there isn’t a strong sense of community. I think this will give people an opportunity to connect with those around them and realize how important it is to invest their energy in building “social capitol”.
  • The playgrounds we build will be unique gathering places where new relationships can be formed between people who might not otherwise meet. This will provide a long term community benefit
  • Community build projects are great ways for community members to get to know each other. They bring together diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic groups by focusing on something we all care about: Our Children!
  • Community build projects will foster community pride and encourage a sense of public ownership. We hope this will also reduce graffiti and vandalism because the community will feel a strong sense of stewardship in parks they built.
  • The project itself will serve as an example to both children and adults that there is real value in community service and that great things can be achieved if we work together.
