Pirates Island Playground In Elk Grove Regional Park

The Consumnes Legacy Foundation and Playground Partners are joining efforts to revive Pirates Island Playground in Elk Grove Regional Park.

The Pirates Island playground structures, previously located on a 1/2-acre island in Elk Grove Regional Park Lake, were built in 1972, but demolished in the late 1980s due to noncompliance with national playground safety standards. The island now sits vacant and the largest park in Elk Grove offers no playground for the over 1,000,000 visitors each year.

Many long-time Elk Grove residents hold fond memories of the adventures experienced in the playground of days past.

If you played or even driven by the playground and water sprayground at Morse Park, you’ve seen first hand what our community can do when it comes together for a good cause!

The Elk Grove Playground Partners need your help to keep the momentum going as we meet to discuss our next park build project: a Pirate Island at Elk Grove Regional Park!

Playground Partners Receives a Certificate of Appreciation

During the Elk Grove city council meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, the Playground Partners and several of its members who put in many volunteer hours were awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Elk Grove.

The award acknowledges volunteers’ “hard work and dedication to the community as a member of the Playground Partners, a non-profit organization formed under the Consumnes Services District”

The certificate goes on to say “Through your generous volunteer efforts, the unique playground at Morse Community Park will provide social, environmental, economic and health benefits for generations to come”

I was deeply honored to be one of the recipients of these certificates, and it makes me smile when I take my daughters out to play on the park that I contributed to. Being a part of Playground Partners has made me feel closer and more connected to my community, and I hope I can continue to give back when I can.

You can get that same feeling by joining the Playground Partners on upcoming park projects in our area.

Playground Partners site redesigned

The Playground Partners website at www.ElkGrovePlaygrounds.com has been completely redesigned for 2009!

Our homepage has been updated to highlight the fact that the Morse Park project is complete. The playground and water sprayground that our local community (with the help of CSD and local businesses) help to build is now open for PLAY! If you’ve visited the park recently, you’ll see that this park is truly remarkable place for fun!

We have also added a new community events calendar!

The Elk Grove Community Events Calendar is a free event listing service for the local community. Our service allows anyone to view, submit and even RSVP for public events for the Elk Grove area. Perfect for movie nights, garage sales, reading groups, poker clubs, tennis groups, community events and more!

Morse Park is Now Open

Morse Park is now open! Located at 5540 Bellatera Drive, Morse Park is one of the largest parks in the Elk Grove area. If you’re in the area, be sure to come in play in our cool water sprayground, take a jog around our trail, shoots some hoops in the full court basketball court, or enjoy one of the many other great features of the park.

Make Your Mark on the Park – Get a Customized Tile for the Community Art Project!

You can make a lasting mark in Elk Grove by purchasing an personalizing one of 1800 tiles that we have for sale as part of our Community Art Project.

These tiles will be put together and will make up a sea themed mural that will decorate the some of the interior retaining walls of the Morse Park Community Playground (park opens August 16, 2008)!

The cost is just $10 per tile and they will be on sale until September 1, 2008. Get yours personalized before they’re gone!

Morse Community Park Playground Dedication August 16, 2008

The community built playground and sprayground are complete, thanks to hundreds of volunteers and numerous sponsor donations. This completes phase one of the 27 acre park!

Join us in dedicating the playground and recognizing the volunteers and sponsors who made this possible!

The playground and sprayground will be open on August 16, 2008 (view the press release PDF on the CSD website). Wear clothes to get wet!
